Valentine’s Day
Well
romance was alive and well on Valentine’s Day at Roxy’s home. My husband and
his buddies bought decorations, flowers, chocolate and then cooked a
champagne brunch for us ladies…a champagne brunch worthy of gastronomic
acclaim. We were tended on hand and foot.
“Your wish is my command” was the
mantra for the day. It was delightful!
In the afternoon, we all went to see the Doha Players production of “Grease”
and it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of song, dance, and laughter. We
clapped and sang to the many tunes as Sandy the main character was pursued
and eventual acquiesced to her most innermost feelings and admitted her love
for the boy.
Once we returned home from the play, we scrambled to get changed and then we
were off to the French restaurant, Maxims at the Ramada Hotel. After
disembarking the private elevator to the restaurant, we were met by
tuxedo-dowed young exotic waiters who kissed our hands (maybe not since this
was Doha, after all). The entire restaurant was basked in what appeared to
be red velvet.

With the glow of the chandeliers reflected in the mirrors,
and the soft sounds of fingers moving tenderly across the keys of the grand
piano in the corner, we were engaged in a romantic fairy tale.
What a day! And here now was the “piece de resistance”. This was a dinner
party for six in our own secluded corner of the restaurant adjacent to the
black grand. Once there we were wined and dined and entertained. As our
waiter laid the pearly white napkin in each of our laps, we ordered our
aperitifs. We chose everything from a Martini to a MaiTai.
Our dinner menu offered many choices including filet mignon to veal and
scallops. Below is a sample of our Valentine’s Day 2009 menu.
The pianist, a young girl from Romania (I believe) played so beautifully. We requested an old favorite of ours for her to play. As her hands grazed the keys playing "Love is Blue", my husband and I danced between the tables as our waiter and our friends glanced us, smiling.
